Opportunities from Housing and Residence Life

As we transition from the excitement of the end of summer and Move In to our lovely fall weather and football season, Housing and Residence Life would like to make you aware of some of the opportunities and services offered to our students.

Involvement – The opening weeks of the freshman year fall semester can sometimes be challenging and it isn’t unusual for feelings of homesickness to set in, especially for students away from home for the first time. One great way to become acclimated to the college scene is to become involved and active in the campus community. Every residential student has a wonderful opportunity to become involved in their building community and take ownership in their new home through their Hall Councils. Not only does Hall Council present residents with a way to get to know their new neighbors, it also provides the rewarding experience of serving as an inclusive voice of representation for the community. Interested residents should check with their RA staff or their Resident Directors for more information.

Room Change – Our room change process begins on the 8th of September. Students who would like to explore the option of pursuing a room change first need to fill out a room change request form, available on our website: housing.appstate.edu. Our staff will then contact the residents with further instructions. Due to high occupancy numbers, space is extremely limited and a room change may not be possible. As many roommate conflicts are a result of communicative challenges, the Residence Life staff may determine that a developmental approach would be more beneficial to the students involved. A good start to any roommate relationship is a Roommate Agreement Form, and we encourage that this step be taken. Our staff is available to help.

Work Orders – Our Housing and Residence Life staff includes dedicated housekeepers, facilities, and maintenance personnel who take great pride in their work. These professionals operate with a service mindset and are happy to help out the students with their facilities needs. In order to better serve student needs, we have adopted a new system for submitting work requests this academic year. This system provides the student with an email confirmation and tracking number for each submission. The login page, as well as directions for usage, can be found here.

Package Delivery – The Department of Housing & Residence Life is pleased to announce the creation of a package delivery desk for our on-campus residents.  The package delivery desk is available to our on-campus residents to assist in having shipments sent via UPS or FedEx delivered successfully. For more information on this new innovative departmental initiative, including addressing directions, visit our information page on the Package Desk.

We are glad that your student has chosen to be a part of our Appalachian community of learners. This is an exciting time to be a part of ASU, and we hope that all of our new freshmen are enjoying opportunities for meaningful experiences as a part of their residential experience. If you have any questions or concerns you can visit us on the web at housing.appstate.edu or call us at 828.262.2160. Go Mountaineers!
