Appalachian's 20 residence halls house about 5,500 students. The halls vary in size and style, with accommodations ranging from double rooms to suites and apartments.
The Department of University Housing maintains the residence halls on the Appalachian campus.
Appalachian Food Services operates a diverse selection of dining options located on East and West campus as well as campus convenience stores and vending machines.

The Roess Dining Hall, centrally located on campus, is home to both the Rivers Street Café and Sanford Commons.
- River's Street Café features Fire Side Pizza, Fresh Market, Healthy Select, Homestyle Classics, Noodle Works, On the Go, Rivers Street Grille, Sushi Bar, Treat Yosef and wrAPPS.
- Sanford Commons features A Sub Shop, Chick-fil-A, Conrad's Coffee, Habanero's, Mountaineer Grille, On the Go, The Pizzeria, Salads Plus, Traditions and Treat Yosef.
A gathering place for students, faculty and staff, thePlemmons Student Union features Cascades Café, Frëshens™ and McAlister’s Deli.
The Markets (Campus Convenience Stores), located in Trivette Hall, the University Bookstore and the Appalachian Panhellenic Hall, offer a large variety of convenience store items.
Appalachian Food Services is also responsible for issuing theAppCard, Appstate’s photo ID card. Your AppCard allows access to Meal Accounts, Express Accounts, and many other services offered by Appalachian.
- Having a Meal Account allows students to purchase any on-campus food and food-related item. There are no restrictions on how, when or where students can use their funds. Meal Account funds are non-refundable.
- Express Accounts are optional accounts that may be set up for a student’s convenience. Express Accounts operate on a declining balance system and are accepted at various on-campus locations. Express Accounts cannot be used off campus and funds cannot be withdrawn as cash. The Express Account is separate from the Meal Account, but it is still accessed by the AppCard.
