Scholarship-Community-Service

Beyond the classroom, Honors seeks to maintain a stimulating and supportive community for serious students. Coffey Hall, the residence for Chancellor’s Scholars, and East Hall, the honors center and residence for many Honors students, provide special facilities for living and learning. Here students work hard together, study together, and share their intellectual and social growth. The Honors Center is often the site for special speakers, discussion groups, or activities sponsored by Honors organizations.

Community is fostered beyond the residence halls as well. The Appalachian Honors Association (AHA!) provides student-led social and community activities for all Honors students. In addition, Honors students often take extra field trips, perhaps to the facilities the University maintains in New York and Washington, DC. Some students attend regional or national Honors conferences or study abroad for Honors credit while others gain invaluable experiences through service-learning projects sponsored by Honors.
