What is an Internship?

American Heritage Defines an Internship as:

"An advanced student or recent graduate undergoing supervised practical training"

Here at Appalachian State University internships for credit are:

  1. Experiential employment opportunities taken in coordination with academic credit course.
  2. A faculty member in the department for which the student will graduate from supervises these internships

Some students choose to do an internship not for credit:

  1. This career related experience does not require a class credit and does not have a site visit or supervision from a faculty member.
  2. Students do not get any academic credit for these experiences.
