Chapter History

On November 16, 1968, sixteen ladies received the charter to the Epsilon Theta chapter of Sigma Alpha Iota. This was the first Greek organization for ladies on the campus of Appalachian State University.  Since then, this chapter has completed many service projects, including the Appalachian Young Musicians’ Workshop for area children.  Many awards have also been won by this chapter, the most recent being the 2002 Provincial College Chapter Achievement Award.  The chapter was also featured in the fraternity journal, Pan Pipes, for being “the little chapter that could.”  The national fraternity was founded on June 12, 1903 at the University School of Music, Ann Arbor, Michigan, and includes 99,462 initiated members worldwide.  2003 marked the centennial anniversary of the founding of Sigma Alpha Iota.
