AYMsAYMS, which stands for Appalachian Young Musicians Workshop, is a workshop we sponsor each year for elementary school children in Watauga county. We hire four clinicians to present workshops on different aspects of music, and a popular local band to present a concert at the culmination of the day's activities. Our chapter has presented this workshop for at least ten years.
Appalachian Youth Wind EnsembleSuccessful in its second year, AYWE is an honor band-type organization for students from surrounding high schools. This highly skilled auditioned group rehearsals twice a month and presents a concert once a semester. Our chapter secured a seed money grant from Philanthropies from this organization, and is responsible for setting up for rehearsals and concerts.

NATT/Jessica Earley MemorialJessica was a sister of our chapter who died of complications due to a blood clot. Her mother, Kathy Earley has been instrumental in helping to found the National Alliance for Thrombosis and Thrombophilia. Along with NATT and Kappa Kappa Psi, we hosted a lecture by Dr. Stephan Moll, a renowned thrombosis specialist on November 18. We have also established a scholarship in Jessica's memory. We hope to do more to assist with this effort. |
