Directories list names, addresses, and telephone numbers of individuals, companies and organizations. Some include information such as lines of business, subsidiaries, number of employees, and brief financial information.

REF. BUS.  HD 2745  D85	D&B Reference Book of Corporate Managements. New York: Dun & Bradstreet. Annual  Three volume set listing the officers and directors of more than 11,000 companies. Indexed ny name, SIC code, geographical location, and by officers of college and universities.
REF. BUS.  HG 4057  A219	Directory of Corporate Affiliations. New Providence, NJ: National Register Publishing . Annual  This five volume set presents information on U.S. and foreign companies, both public and private. Indexed by company name, brand name, geographic location, SIC code, and corporate responsibility listings include personnel in key areas of responsibility from both parent company and subsidiaries. Company entries also include Board of Directors; outside service firms--legal firm and auditor; divisions within company; joint ventures and subsidiaries  .
	Hoover's Company Profiles and Capsules,  Hoover's Company Profiles provides of  2,600 public and private companies in the US and around the world. This database also includes Hoover's Company Capsules which provides basic information on more than 10,000 public and private companies.
	Lexis Nexis Academic Universe, (updated daily) Search Help  Select Company Financial Information from the Topic List. From the Report Type list there are a number of directory type resources, including: US Public Companies; US Private Companies; Hoover's Company Reports; Company Intellgence-US; and International Company Reports.
REF. BUS.  HG 4057  A4	Standard & Poor's Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives. New York: Standard & Poor's.  A directory of major U.S. firms. Volume 1 gives company name, address, telephone number, principal officers and directors, SIC codes, products, number of employees, and sales volume. Volume 2 provides biographies of key executives. Volume 3 provides indexes by SIC code and by geographic location. Covers both public and private companies.
	WorldscopeS, Current (updated weekly)   Worldscope Global is derived from corporate annual and 10K reports, disclosure statements,  newspapers, and  wire services. Each record includes a description of the business, selected financials, key ratios, and officers.

Belk Library contacts all Fortune 500 companies for their annual report: currently more than 80 percent have been received for 1997. Annual reports are located in the black file cabinet behind the Consultation Offices in the Reference area. See the databases below for online access to annual reports.
 

	FreeEDGAR  Free online access to SEC filings. Searchable by company name or SIC code. Reports can be viewed online or turned into downloadable Excel spreadsheets. Also includes "in-depth financial analysis based on FreeEDGAR financial data" and "basic information on finance and investing."
	Lexis Nexis Academic Universe, (updated daily) Search Help  Select Company Financial Information from the Topic List. From the Report Type list select SEC Annual Reports. Coverage starts in 1987.
	The Public Register Online Annual Report Service  Currently has reports for more than 1,100 companies. When selecting a company, you will have the choice to view the online annual report (most are in the Adobe Acrobat format (*.pdf)) or you may request a hard copy.

Economic Census, Report Series

Covers eight sectors of the economy: retail trade; wholesale trade; service industries;  transportation, communications, and utilities; financial, insurance, and real estate industries;  manufactures; mineral industries, and construction industries. Statistics common to all sectors include the number of establishments, number of employees,  payroll, and measures of output such as sales, receipts, value of shipments, and value of  construction work done.

	County and City Data Book. Washington, DC: Department of Commerce  The data coverage includes population, health, crime, income labor force, agriculture, wholesale and retail trade, and poverty status for U.S. counties and cities.
REF. BUS.  HF  5415.33  U6 L54	The Lifestyle Market Analysis. Des Plaines, IL: SRDA. Annual  Market analysis source which breaks down the American population geographically and demographically. It provides detailed characteristics for over 200 U.S. markets, including Charlotte, Greensboro-High Point-Winston Salem, Greenville-New Bern-Washington, Raleigh-Durham, and Wilmington in North Carolina.

REF. BUS.  HA 203  S66	The Sourcebook of Zip Code Demographics. Fairfax, VA: CACI. Annual.  A measure of purchasing power in zip code arrangement. Also take a look at Demographics USA, which provides the same type of information for U.S. counties.
REF. BUS.  HF 5905  S725	Standard Rate and Data Service. Skokie, IL: Standard Rate & Data Service, Inc.  Service composed of numerous volumes, including the Newspaper Advertising Source, Consumer Magazine, Radio Advertising, and TV & Cable Source. Provides selected demographic data including expenditures within broad industry categories.

BUS.  HF 5681  R25 A45	Almanac of Business and Industrial Financial Ratios Englewood Cliffs, NJ: Prentice Hall.  Derived from IRS data on 4 million U.S. companies, provides performance data for 50 operating and financial factors for 179 industries. Includes decade-long performance figures and ratios.
REF. BUS  HF 5681  B2 R6	RMA Annual Statement Studies Philadelphia: Robert Morris Assoc.  This collection of ratios presents detailed financial statement information on 350 industries. A useful feature is the bibliography of specialized industry publications, which include financial ratios.

REF. BUS  HC 4905  M88	Moody's Industry Review. New York: Moody's Investors Service.  Provides a ranked list of the leading companies in 140 industry groups according to 12 key financial, operating and investment criteria.
REF. BUS  HC 106.6  S74	Standard & Poor's Industry Surveys. New York: Standard and Poor's.  Describes major trends and issues in numerous industries. Financial and statistical information about leading industries is included, often with market share data.
	Stat-USA, (updated daily)  Stat-USA, produced by the Department of Commerce, contains current and historical trade-related information, including international market research, trade opportunities, country analysis, and the National Trade Databank  (NTDB). Also includes current and historical economic and financial information and economic data.
REF. BUS.  HG 4501  V26	Value Line Investment Survey.  Value Line covers about 100 industries. It ranks the expected performance of both industries and companies and gives historical information as well. Emphasis is on industries dominated by publicly traded companies.

 
Journal/Magazine Indexes

Indexes are used to locate journal and magazines articles, newspaper articles and statistical information. Most of the article indexes are available anywhere on campus, including computer labs, dorm rooms, offices, and of course, the library.

Indexes leading trade magazines, newsletters, the general business press and international business dailies.
	Business Source Elite Indexing: 1984 - to date; Full Text for most 1990 - to date (updated daily)  Business Source Elite offers comprehensive keyword access to nearly 1500 abstracted titles, including The Wall  Street Journal, plus searchable full text for more than 740 business periodicals.

	Newspaper Source, 1995 - to date; Full text for selected papers: 1995 - to date  Newspaper Source provides abstracts and indexing for the New York Times, Wall Street Journal (Eastern and  Western editions), Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, Los Angeles Times, and the Washington Post.  Selected full text is available for over 105 Knight-Ridder papers, including the Richmond Times, Atlanta Journal  and Constitution, and The Charlotte Observer.
