Case Studies

In small groups, students will complete 4 case studies. Each case study will include several components, including review of case history information, assessment planning, role-plays, interpretation of findings, and report-writing. Each case will be worth up to100 points based on instructor and group evaluation. Details for each case study are included in the course pack.

Presentations

Each group will be responsible for presenting information on a specific assessment tool. Each group should include the following features in the presentation.

  • 30-45 minute multi-media presentation 
    • describe the purpose of the test
    • demonstrate the administration procedures
    • demonstrate and/or explain scoring procedures
    • role-play representative portions of the test, demonstrating behaviors that might be observed when administering the test.
  • 1-2 page handout describing 
    • purpose of the test
    • populations for which the test is intended
    • time required and any additional materials needed
    • validity and reliability
    • unique administration and scoring procedures
    • a sample narrative of how the results would be described in a report.

Instrument Review

Students will be responsible for reviewing the characteristics of 5 standardized assessment instruments. Information obtained from each instrument will be entered into a web-based database by the student. Each student has been assigned specific tests to review by the course instructor. The reviews will be due 11/30. 

Assessment Competencies

Each student will demonstrate competency in the administration and scoring of several assessment tools appropriate for several age groups and disorder areas.

    • These competencies will be completed by appointment with Dr. Clark.

      • Goldman-Fristoe with Khan-Lewis protocol
    • These competencies will be completed by appointment with Dr. Clark.
  • Competency #3 
    • Rosetti
    • This competency will be demonstrated by video tape. Individually or in groups of 2, students will administer the Rosetti protocol to a child of appropriate age.
