Jeff Goodman Morning Sessions

Adult Basic Skills Institute 2013

Around the Track: Concrete to Abstract and Back
In this large group session, we will consider the relationship between concrete problems in the world and their expression in the language of mathematics.  We will explore a variety of ways we can contextualize math content, translate real-world context into more abstract forms in order to solve problems, and finally check answers back against the real world.

Human Wonder Research: Attending to Attention and Understanding Understanding
In this large group session, we will explore brain-based learning and apply it to the development of mathematical reasoning over time, focusing on how we can help students attend meaningfully to what they are studying and build understanding based on what they already know.
