I teach a variety of courses at Appalachian, including introductory geology, the challenging Evolution of the Earth course, a field and museum methods class known as the "Triassic trip" and, occasionally, an honors seminar on dinosaurs.
  •  Courses Taught
  •  GLY 1101 Introduction to Physical Geology
  •  GLY 1102 Introduction to Historical Geology
  •  GLY 2250 Evolution of the Earth
  •  GLY 3549 Dinosaurs
  •  GLY 3520 Triassic Trip: Field and Museum Methods
  •  GLY 4024 Invertebrate Paleontology
  •  GLY 4501 Senior Research and Senior Thesis
  •  GH 1515 Dinosaurs: Origins, Evolution, Extinction?

My favorite classroom is in the field. Evolution of the Earth uses the local outcrops of the Appalachian Mountains for class field trips. The honors classes have visited the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences, the Smithsonian, and the National Zoo. Even more wide-ranging is the Triassic trip, which annually visits sites in New Mexico, Arizona, or Colorado as well as the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science.
