The Psychology Clinic
413 Howard Street

The Psychology Clinic is a specialty clinic sponsored by the Psychology Department at ASU.  The assessment model was developed by Dr.  Arthur Anastopoulus at UNC-Greensboro.

Services provided
The Psychology Clinic offers a full range of Clinical services to children and adolescents with AD/HD referral concerns, including:
--comprehensive, state of the art diagnostic assessments
--intellectual and educational acheievement testing
--individual, group, and family therapy
--parent training
--school consultation
--education about AD/HD

Assessment approach
Because AD/HD is often accompanied by other difficulties, we do not just assess for AD/HD.  Our evaluations include procedures that check for secondary learning, behavioral, emotional, social, and family problems.  To obtain the most accurate picture of a person's referral concerns, we use a combination of assessment procedures, including:
--state of the art diagnostic interviews
--parent/teacher questionnaires
--self-report questionnaires
--psychologicial tests
--medication evaluation

Treatment approach
Since AD/HD occurs across multiple settings and is often accompanied by other problems, no one treatment is sufficient in addressing  all of the difficulties that an individual with AD/HD might face.  For this reason we routinely use a combination of treatments as a way to facilitate improvements in daily functioning.

Staff
The Psychology Clinic operates under the direction of Dr. Hank Schneider.  Graduate students in ASU's Clinical Psychology Master's Program provide clinical services.  All graduate students have received training in the assessment and treatment of AD/HD, as well as other types of child, adolescent, and adult problems.  All students work closely under the supervision of Dr. Schneider, a licensed Psychologist in North Carolina.

Fees
Fees for evaluations range from $600 to $800.  Many insurance companies provide reimbursement for services received at the AD/HD clinic.  The Psychology clinic may also be able to accept Medicaid payments for its services.

Arranging an Appointment
To schedule an appointment, call the clinic at (828) 262-6639.  If you call in the morning, please leave a message with your name, phone number, and a best time to reach you.  An intake appointment will be arranged as soon as possible.

Role of research
In order to provide the highest quality clinical care, the Psychology Clinic utilizes assessment procedures and treatment strategies that have been shown to be effective by research.  In keeping with this philosophy, another purpose of the Psychology Clinic is to conduct research that leads to the development of more effective clinical management strategies.  Clients receiving clinical services are under no obligation to participate in any resarch, but may do so on a voluntary basis.
