Assignments:

1. Beginning in May you will have assigned readings to complete before meeting in class, 10 June. There will be readings for each particular minority group.

2. A pre-assigned group of students will be expected to lead one day's class discussions. You will be assigned a day and a topic on which you need to do some additional background research. I will be in contact with you to make suggestions as to sources for that additional information. Prior to the class commencing you will receive your group member's email addresses so that you can contact one another and plan how to direct the discussions. As part of this assignment you will be expected to do the following:

a. provide some general historical background information about the group as a preamble to the discussion;

            b. be familiar with the traditional history and the non-traditional history    of the group;

c. formulate at least two or three significant points, in relation to the themes of this course, on which you can guide the discussion;

d. provide the professor with a written plan for the discussions, including, but not exclusive to your background history, your discussion points, and your research sources;

e. individually provide a grade of your peers using the linked form.

3. Journal your responses to the assigned readings and class time. Consider questions like: What questions do you have about the readings? What is new information, what is intriguing? What do you want to know more about? What seems inaccurate or in error? How do you feel about history and its creation?, etc. This will be one of the most important ways for you to inform me about what you have learned. So it is important that your journaling be thoughtful and detailed.
