  • Purpose & Description
The French Table :
*  welcomes anyone interested in improving or maintaining their oral communication skills in French.
* offers useful, guided conversational practice in a non-threatening environment to all persons -- from
   those beginning their studies of the language to those whose linguistic proficiency is more advanced.
* is completely voluntary and informal in nature.  That is, there's no pressure to "perform".  Speak when
   you're comfortable doing so, remembering that listening is not only an important skill, but 50% of any
   meaningful conversation!
* will meet one evening per week for approximately one hour.

Dr. Lane will be present to facilitate discussions and to assist with vocabulary, pronunciation, and communication strategies, but the French Table is not to be likened to a French class or tutoring session.

GOLDEN RULE :
Participants are asked to refrain from the use of English and to speak exclusively in French!

While most meetings will be amorphous, allowing students to meet in small groups or with partners and discuss a topic of their own choosing, it has been decided that, occasionally...
        Francophone films might be shown and then discussed;
        A topic of general interest (music, sports, food, cinema, art, etc.) might be announced in advance;
        A guest speaker might present his/her ideas to the group to stimulate discussion; etc.
