HauntingsBlithe Spirit is a comedy featuring an honest-to-goodness ghost. Playwright Noel Coward set the play in Kent, which claims to be "the most haunted county in England." Coward did not specify where in Kent his characters live, but they make comments about the region that suggest Pluckley was probably the town Coward was thinking of when writing the play. The Guiness Book of World Records 1998 declared Pluckley to be "the most haunted town in England"--no small honor in a country famous for its ghosts. Like the ghost of Elvira who haunts the house in Blithe Spirit, three of Pluckley's ghosts are dead women who may or may not have originally returned to the mortal plane to haunt their husbands.
