The Dramaturgs

This website was created by the dramaturgy team for the ASU production of The Waiting Room, which included Dr. Paulette Marty and three students from her dramaturgy course:   Henry Finch, James Houston, and Holly Thugut.

A dramaturg serves as a creative advisor to the other members of the production team and helps make the play more clear and interesting for the audience by performing a variety of tasks, which vary from one production to another.   Dramaturgs perform research to inform the director, designers, and actors about the playwright, the playwright's historical context, and the issues depicted in the play.   They often share this research with the audience as well through interpretive materials like websites, lobby displays, and--for this show--waiting-room-style forms and pamphlets.   On productions of new plays, dramaturgs work with playwrights to help them develop their scripts.
