Hello, my name is Keegan

I am a designer from the beaches of Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, and this website is the latest manifestation of my portfolio. I was born in Richmond, Virginia on March 27, 1989 and I am currently a senior at Appalachian State University attaining my Bachelors of Fine Arts in Graphic Design. Currently, I am finishing up my last few weeks of school before graduation.

Print

"Before printing was discovered, a century was equal to a thousand years." - Henry Thoreau

From posters and billboards to books and magazine ads, print is by far the most versatile medium available to graphic designers.

When designing for print my main goal has always been to interest viewers. Whether that ends up coming from clever imagery, amazing artwork, or powerful words the design needs motivate and inspire audiences.

Book Design

Since it is impossible to capture a book's design in a single image you can download samples of my book design below.

Identity

"Identity is such a crucial affair that one shouldn't rush into it." - David Quammen

I have always had a love for branding and identity design. There is something about capturing the heart and soul of an organization that I find an extremely rewarding experience.

Throughout all of my branding work I pay special attention to creating something not only unique, interesting, and compelling but something that truly captures the essence of the organization.

Web Design

While print has always had a fond spot in my heart I have to confess that web design might hold a slightly larger spot.

With countless hours programing I can code standards compliant HTML, CSS, and Javascript, code custom sites from scratch in HTML5, CSS3, Jquery, and Flash, and set up Joomla, Drupal, and Wordpress templates among other things.

Packaging

"I had always done these 3D things that you could walk through. They were always done off the seat of my pants without blueprints or course." - Red Grooms

While I do plan before I begin designing packaging, I think Groom's idea about how 3-dimensional objects are things that people truly interact with is the most fascinating part of packaging design.

In all of my packaging, I take special care in considering what the core purpose of the object is. Whether it's designing a CD to catch people's eyes or environmentally friendly packaging that reinvents how we box products, there's always something new to explore.

Process

"It is art that makes life, makes interest, makes importance and I know of no substitute whatever for the force and beauty of its process." - Max Eastman

Oftentimes designers overlook this part of design, but for me the process leading to a design can turn out to be just as important as the final piece.

It is the work behind a design that makes people wonder, "How would someone ever think to do that?" The answer is easy, countless sketches, brainstorming sessions, and designs leading up to the final work.

Photo-
graphy

The goal is not to change your subjects, but for the subject to change the photographer. - Author Unknown

Photography has always been a passion of mine since I first used a camera.

In all my photographic work, I try to capture not only moving images but also the emotions and feelings that surround these beautiful moments of time.
