Context This unit is designed to be implemented in a seventh grade classroom. The lessons and activities connected with this unit were developed to address various learning differences with a focus on socially constructed learning environments. Rationale This theme encapsulates the everyday life of a middle school student. Young adolescents in the seventh grade have a history of transitioning from elementary to middle school. They are also preparing to transition to high school at the end of eighth grade. Young adolescents experience transitions physically, emotionally, and mentally. They need to understand that change and the transitions that accompany change can be positive experiences. Young adolescents should feel empowered by change because it is the catalyst for growth in all directions. Focus Change is inevitable in our lives and young adolescents need to understand the transitioning process that allows change to become a permanent structure in their lives. Related Lessons |
