Kay Bishop is a graphic designer, graphic arts instructor, and a children’s art teacher. She currently teaches through the Graphic Communications Management (GCM) program at Appalachian State University (ASU). She earned her BFA in Visual Communication at the University of Texas at Austin. She was an art director for a magazine in Chicago for 5 years and has worked in graphic design for over 15 years in a variety of fields, including editorial publishing, marketing, print, and web. She developed a Pre-K–12 children’s art education program and previously taught at the Turchin Center for the Visual Arts. She earned her Masters of Arts in Educational Media, with a concentration in New Media Literacies and Global Perspectives at ASU and is a Joe Murphy Educational Media Fellowship recipient. She is passionate about inspiring students of all ages to create art and design in multimodal and multicultural contexts.
She took on the Ivory Tower Wine Label Branding project for her graduate capstone project. She is always excited to work with students on real-world, client-based projects and believes that the experience of working with real clients gives them valuable understanding of the graphic communications process.
