The Problem of Separation |
One issue with most learning textbooks and most learning courses is that classical conditioning and operant conditioning are taught as separate topics. Solomon's "traumatic avoidance" experiments show that specific situations involve both types of conditioning and they can interact in complex manners. The purpose of this assignment is to get you used to analyzing a situation for both types of conditioning effects. Take a specific situation that you know very well (e.g., a dinner with the family, taking your dog for a walk, being in a specific class) and analyze it for its classical and operant components for a specific person/nonhuman in the situation. (You can use yourself as the specific person.)
