The Roberts: 2010 Christmas letter

It was the 2nd week in December when Joanna asked Doug "Is the Christmas letter ready to go?"

Bad weather, final exams, and Doug's overall busyness prompted his response of "no";

It's not going to happen, not this year, you'll have to do it yourself, I just don't have the time,

It's getting old, I've lost the touch, anyway, no one enjoys a letter with rhyme;

Besides all this, there's nothing to report, there's nothing newsworthy among us this year,

Unless you think Fisher's start of Kindergarten is worthy, a start he made with no fear;

He jumped right in, no looking back, and enjoys going every day, including Monday,

Unlike the other two, he's easy to get up in the mornings, with never a grumpy word to say;

He's made lots of friends, learned a thing or two, and is not the shy little boy we once knew,

Completely opposite of his brothers, while not a troublemaker, he's not as cautious, and has been "called down" a time or two;

Then there's Fletcher who loves staying up late, hates getting up early, a constant battle of night guy versus morning guy,

Despite the morning struggle, he loves being with his friends so to say he hates school would be a lie;

Once again playing soccer, and a first year of basketball, he loves to play sports, unlike his older brother and dad,

He is progressing in Cub Scouts, making good marks in second grade and except for his occasional temper outburst, he is a good lad;

Forrest still reads a lot, spends hours on the computer, and after a year of no barber, let us cut his long hair,

He's experiencing changes, the pre-teen moodiness, an increased desire for socializing, and hair on his top lip and elsewhere;

Joanna stays busy with church work, a quilt guild, ASU Women's Club, and Parkway's PTO president-which often by itself feels like a full time job,

Of course her biggest commitment, one she is doing very well, is keeping track of and caring for her often unruly mob;

Last but not least, Lizzie's still here and doing well and Joanna's trying her best to get her a housemate,

She's encouraged a stray cat (Lillie) to stay, despite Doug's objections, he's afraid he knows what end awaits;

So all in all the year's been a good one, starting with lots of cold, ice and snow (27 days of missed school in the 1st three months of the year),

And that's how it's ending so far (having just missed 9 of the last 10 school days) with the forecast saying more of the same is near;

With that we wish you a Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year, and may God's blessings be with you all year!

(This line is just added to continue the rhyming lines - having made it this far I didn't want to fail right here).
