Kathryn Poslusny chose to pursue a degree in Mathematics (BS) - Business knowing it would allow her to pursue multiple career paths.
“My concentration in business will allow real world applications using the math I’ve learned,” she said.
“Overall, majoring in math has been a great decision, especially after having the opportunity of an accounting internship that combined my love of math with the business world.”
Poslusny said that the faculty in Appalachian’s Department of Mathematical Sciences provide a support system for students and are always willing to help.
“The one-on-one interaction I have received has allowed me to be successful. Faculty inspire students in many different ways. They suggest classes they feel would be interesting to you, provide a variety of research opportunities, and make learning math fun and interesting,” she said.
Poslusny said that an opportunity to serve as treasurer of the American Marketing Association allowed her to implement classroom knowledge into real situations.
She recommended Appalachian to students interested in mathematics because the degree provides experiences in both math and business. After graduation, Poslusny said she plans to pursue either graduate school or a career in the business field.
