Literature Circles Roles for Content Disciplines
The following adaptations of literature circles roles were developed by teachers at Pumpkin Center Middle School during a literacy-focused professional development session. These roles were originally intended to help teachers integrate a literacy focus into their particular content disciplines; however, another outcome might be that the middle grades curriculum could be integrated using literacy as a focus. These roles are offered as a starting point for teachers to use as a resource. In addition, a template is provided so that teachers may create their own literature (or learning) circle roles to be used in their own schools and classrooms.
