About Me

I have been teaching sixth grade reading for five years. I am very fortunate to be teaching at Claremont Elementary School. I have called Claremont Elementary home since graduating from UNC-Charlotte in 2007. I have a special interest in teaching upper-grade elementary school children. Even with my limited experience teaching, I have found these student’s passion for reading needs rekindling. I enjoy helping to get that fire started again.
After three years of teaching, my thirst for learning was substantial, so it was time to go back to school. I am currently in my second year of the Reading Education Program and am finished with my coursework. I am really enjoying implementing  what I have learned. The Knowledge I have gained has been very applicable to my classroom. I have often learned something in my graduate class one evening and used it in my classroom the next day. I want my passion for learning will be evident to my students. I hope to instill this in them as well!

I have been married for five years and have one fur baby, Doc (named after my favorite Bluegrass musician Doc Watson). I feel lucky to be able to call these two my family!
In my free time, I enjoy practicing yoga. My yoga practice has had a profound impact in my classroom. I have developed patience that I once did not have. I also have developed an awareness of the monumental impact I can potentially have on the children I am surrounded by each day.
