    App State earns R2 designation for high research activity and doctorate production

    App State has earned a Research 2 designation through the Carnegie Classification system for high research activity and doctorate production. App State’s research expenditures in fiscal year 2023 were more than $8.4 million and, in 2022–23, the university awarded 20 doctoral degrees.

    UNC System Board of Governors approves App State's new Doctor of Nursing Practice hybrid program

    In fall 2026, App State will launch a new Doctor of Nursing Practice program, designed to educate family practice nurse practitioners and respond to health care provider shortages, especially in rural areas. The program has been approved by the UNC System Board of Governors.

    Dr. Heather Hulburt Norris named chancellor of Appalachian State University

    On Feb. 27, 2025, the UNC Board of Governors elected Dr. Heather Hulburt Norris as the next leader of Appalachian State University. Norris has served as interim chancellor since April 2024. Her career has been characterized by her strong, collaborative leadership and service to both App State and the greater community, and she brings more than two decades of academic leadership, vision and expertise to her role as chancellor.

    Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical, jazz, and old-fashioned pop – Thomas Lauderdale founded Pink Martini in 1994 to provide more beautiful and inclusive musical soundtracks for causes such as civil rights, affordable housing, the environment, libraries, public broadcasting, education and parks. Thirty years later, Pink Martini still tours the world, singing in 22 languages at opera houses, concert halls, film festivals, museums, and fashion shows.

    App State's annual FanFest, this year presented by Mercy Urgent Care, will welcome fans to Kidd Brewer Stadium for a free opportunity to interact with Mountaineer student-athletes. Every sports team will be represented. Posters, autographs with App State student-athletes and coaches, inflatables and other interactive games. Concessions and App State merchandise will be sold.

    App State's signature fundraising event in support of women's athletics. Includes cocktail reception, student-athlete reflections and a game day-themed fashion show highlighting current student-athletes. Attendees are encouraged to wear their favorite game day attire. Women in Motion was launched in 2022, establishing the Women in Motion Scholarship Fund while celebrating the incredible Mountaineer women who paved the way for current and future student-athletes.
