You 'May also run across familiar words that stand out somehow in the reading - words that are repeated a lot, used in an unusual way, or key to the meaning of the text. Connections: What did today's reading remind you of or make you think about in your life?
From this reading I was made aware of how illiterate our world really is. This has really shown me that as a teacher, I will be faced with children who have been passed along slipping through the cracks not even prepared for the grade level they are in. I think that I take for granted that all children have families that are literate when in fact they are not. This gives a whole different perspective to sending notes home for parents, announcements, and even report cards. I also think that this will allow me to see how important parent teacher meetings really are so that I can better understand where each child is coming from to better help them to where they are going.
