BIOGRAPHY |
Dr.
Kernodle has a Ph.D. in
Kinesiology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign with an
emphasis on Motor Learning and Biomechanics. He began his career
at Appalachian State University in 1989 as an instructor in the
Department of Health, Leisure and Exercise Science and was the head
men's and women's varsity tennis coach. He is presently a
Professor at Appalachian State University and is responsible for
teaching undergraduate classes in Motor Learning, Motor Development,
Sport Sociology and Sports Psychology. His research interests
include virtual modeling, computer-assisted distance learning, multiple
intelligences and learning styles, feedback, and the strategies and
tactics of tennis. He has been a reviewer for Perceptual and
Motor Skills, has been a member of the United States Tennis Association
national sports science committee, the Intercollegiate Tennis
Association national sports science committee, a member of the United
States Professional Tennis Association national education committee,
and the chair and head judge for the USPTA national seminar
contest. He has made numerous presentations at the AAHPERD,
NAPEHE, USPTA, ITA, USTA and PTR national conferences. He is a
USPTA Master Professional, USPTA Southern Division College Coach of the
Year and Southern Division Professional of the Year. He was a
Division One men’s tennis coach and won the Southern Conference in
1996. He played college tennis at the University of North
Carolina and played several years on the professional circuit. |
