Write a paper in which you discuss the use of mathematical tools in supporting the students’ understandings in the Patterning and Partitioning lesson sequence. Be sure to include both (a) the teachers’ role in the use of tools to support the students’ learning mathematics with understanding and (b) the students’ use of tools in the lessons.
In your paper, be sure to give specific examples by referring to the classroom video and description of the lesson sequence. In addition to the paper, you are expected to present an overview of your analysis to the class and to facilitate discussion on your topic.
