1. RE 5525 Personal Statement and Reflection
Context:
This artifact was created for RE 5525, Product of Learning, under the direction of Dr. Woodrow Trathen. This statement and reflection describes what I have learned from the Reading Education program and how I plan to implement what I have learned into my own classroom.
Rationale:
This artifact demonstrates my ability to reflect on what I have learned and my own teaching practices. I fully intent to have my students reflect on what they learn and this demonstrates my commitment to reflective practices. This reflection allowed me to think back on all that I have learned from the program and how I intend to utilize that knowledge to improve the learning experiences of my students. This artifact shows my support of student learning and my knowledge of the importance of being reflective of my teaching ability.
Context:
This artifact was created for RE 5100, Teaching Beginning Readers and Writers, under the instruction of Dr. Robert Schlagal. This paper is a summary and reflection of my knowledge of how to assess early struggling readers. It also addresses the literacy work I would focus on with struggling beginning readers.
Rationale:
This artifact demonstrates my knowledge of the needs of struggling beginning readers and how to best assess their reading level. This artifact required me to reflect on what I had learned throughout the course and to come up with a plan of assessment for a struggling reader at the beginning of first grade. This knowledge is crucial because it will allow me to effectively assess students and adjust their instruction to best suit their needs. This artifact demonstrates my commitment to learning new ways to help students and to reflect on what I have learned to determine the best course of action.
